The Travelling Suitcase Art Exhibition by the NCEATA members has been touring eastern Australia for nearly thirty years, bringing the more unusual fibre arts to towns that would frequently miss out on the opportunity to see first hand and hands on art. Each piece is original, designed and executed by the artist. A wide variety of techniques are represented.
It has been such a success that many High Schools throughout NSW wait for the exhibition to inspire their HSC textile and art students. A photographic catalogue is included which not only gives details of the inspiration behind the artists work but information on the techniques used.
The exhibition time is divided into two weekly periods. The organisation receiving the exhibition is responsible for repacking the suitcase and paying the freight, usually by Australia Post, to the next address shown in the information package. The artworks may be displayed in public spaces such as galleries where they are hung on the walls or displayed on stands. Alternately they can be passed around a group to inspect at close range.
The theme for 2018 is:
NATURE OF THINGS
All the pieces in this exhibition incorporate all or part of the woodblock prints below by local artist Bob Seal while maintaining NCEATA's usual standard of creative, contemporary textiles.
