We are a Newcastle/ Hunter Valley NSW based group of textile artists. Commenced in 1979, NCEATA has expanded its meetings to twice monthly, running workshops and sharing at “show and tell”.
We also practice some lesser known non-traditional textile art styles (e.g. free-machine embroidery, felting and mixed media with fabric), so we decided to share our inspirations and techniques with others. NCEATA also exhibits at the Timeless Textiles Gallery, the Newcastle Stitches and Craft Show, and has stalls at the Newcastle Art Bazaar and Sustainability Festival.
The ’Travelling Suitcase’ exhibition of textile art travels around New South Wales in a suitcase to schools and Community Arts Centres. These textiles are hung in Galleries or displayed in classrooms where students can study the details of the art. The theme for 2019 is Black and White Plus.
A photographic catalogue is included which also gives details of the inspiration and techniques behind each person’s work. This along with the artwork has become an invaluable resource for Higher School Certificate textile and art students.
The only expense to you is the forwarding freight cost and this has typically been less than $50. It is essential that the suitcase is posted on time. Typically, two week blocks are offered. If your organisation is interested in hosting the Suitcase, please contact the coordinator Tara.
Unfortunately there is no suitcase for 2023.
Our suitcase came to a standstill during 2020. We will to be back
with our next exhibition soon.
