We are a Newcastle/ Hunter Valley NSW based group of textile artists.
For nearly 40 years NCEATA has been meeting twice monthly, running workshops and sharing at “show and tell”.
Due to some lesser known non-traditional textile art styles in Australia (e.g. free-machine embroidery, felting and mixed media with fabric), we decided to share our inspirations and techniques with others. NCEATA also exhibits at the Timeless Textiles Gallery, the Newcastle Stitches and Craft Show, and has a stall at the Newcastle Art Bazaar.
This worthwhile Travelling Suitcase exhibition travels around New South Wales in a suitcase to schools and Community Arts Centres. These textiles are hung in Galleries or displayed in classrooms where students can study the details of the art.
A photographic catalogue is included which gives details of the inspiration and techniques behind each person’s work. This along with the artwork has become an invaluable resource for Higher School Certificate textile and art students.
The only expense to you is the forwarding freight cost and this has typically been less than $50. It is essential that the suitcase is posted on time. Typically, one and a half week blocks are offered. If your organisation is interested in hosting the Suitcase, please contact me by this email:
The theme for 2018 is:
NATURE OF THINGS
The printing blocks were carved from wood by a local artist/cartoonist especially for NCEATA to use as a feature print for this year's exhibition. All or part of the blocks or a 'twist' on the blocks had to be used in the contemporary textile art pieces created especially for this exhibition. Here are photos of the three original blocks.
If your school or organization is interested in having this exhibition please contact Sandra the coordinator.
